MAKING VOTING POPULARSix election offices in the bi-state Kansas City Metropolitan Area are working together to promote voting to area residents. The county election offices include Clay, Jackson, Platte and Kansas City election offices in Missouri; and Johnson and Wyandotte election offices in Kansas. The first initiative is titled, "Making Voting Popular (MVP)". This is a corporate and organizational outreach program to assist election offices with staffing of voting locations on Election Day. On major election days, election offices in the bi-state area become the eighth largest employer in the area, hiring over 5,900 employees. With unemployment at an all time record low, finding these employees is a difficult task. The MVP program is designated to promote a public/private partnership which will improve the voting process, increase public awareness of the need to make voting popular and promote civic responsibility. Mission
Statement MISSION STATEMENTTo develop a voluntary partnership between election authorities and the corporate/business/organizational community that will meet election day human resource needs. OBJECTIVETo develop a formal program that will allow corporations, businesses and organizational institutions the opportunity to loan employees to election organizations to serve as election workers on election day. GOALTo increase the number of election workers available to election authorities, expand public knowledge of the voting process, create opportunities for individuals to commit to and meet civic responsibilities and, through formal and informal communication channels, develop outreach programs which will ultimately result in increased voter participation. BENEFITS
SPONSORSThe Kansas City Board of Election Commissioners, Jackson County Board of Election Commissioners, Clay County Board of Election Commissioners, Platte County Board of Election Commissioners, the Johnson County Election Commissioner and the Wyandotte County Election Commissioner. OPEN LETTEROpen Letter to Kansas City Metropolitan Companies and OrganizationsWe need your help! On election days, our bi-state election authorities become one of the largest employers in the metropolitan area, by hiring workers to conduct the election. With our current 4% unemployment rate, finding personnel to meet these needs is a difficult task, but with your help, we can make a difference. Making Voting Popular is a program developed by election officials who serve our bi-state area and is designed to address this need. It provides an opportunity for companies and organizations to promote civic pride by loaning employees to work in elections. You can participate by selecting employees to work as Election Day officials in their home county on election day. Each participant will be trained and compensated for the 13-14 hour work day and each participating company/organization will be recognized with a beautiful MVP Certificate. Organizations can use the program as a fund raising tool when members agree to work on election day and donate their salary to their group. We believe this public/private partnership will improve the voting process, increase public awareness of the need to make voting popular and promote civic responsibility. Of course, it will also be good for your business or group as it will communicate your commitment to civic responsibility throughout the metropolitan region. The following data provides additional information about this innovative program.
